MRF Members of Parliament, Stanislav Anastasov and Kalin Stoyanov have submitted an official notification to OFAC - the Office of Foreign Assets Control - against Ivan Demerdzhiev, the Interior Minister. Demerdzhiev has been indicted for a crime pursuant to the Criminal Code, and is thus with compromised integrity.

Today, my colleague Stanislav Anastasov from the Parliamentary Group of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, and I submitted an official notification to OFAC – the Office of Foreign Assets Control – against Ivan Demerdzhiev, the Minister of the Interior. Demerdzhiev currently occupies this post despite an official indictment for abuse of office pursuant to the meaning of the Criminal Code
In the notification, we set out information describing a series of his acts which give cause for significant suspicion concerning the use of his official authorities in a way which is not compliant with the principles of lawfulness, objectivity and accountability when performing public office.
We believe that the actions of Ivan Demerdzhiev demonstrate a consequential model of conduct which can be characterised as the use of administrative and regulatory mechanisms in the aims of achieving personal and political aims, rather than the protection of legitimate public interest.
