Delyan Peevski, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms: “The memory of the Communist State Security Agents and Reporters must not be deleted. The ominous days of the Communist regime must never be repeated"

The intention of the government tacitly to close the Commission for the Disclosure of Files and Declaring the Involvement of Bulgarian Citizens in the State Security and Intelligence services of the Bulgarian People's Army is a scandalous attempt to delete the memory of the events and processes from the dark times of the Communist regime, as well as those who participated in them. They are seeking to conceal the repressions and their main perpetrators, the network of reporters, the initiators and the organisers of the enormous process of ethnic cleansing - the so-called "Revival Process", as well as the concentration camps for repressing the opponents of Communism.
The only way to prevent any danger of repeating these ominous times and their methods in the present day is to keep their memory alive.
It is for this reason that we of the MRF categorically oppose the intention of the government and call for a broad public debate about the future of the Files Commission. If the MRF has categorically and irrevocably cleansed itself from all agents of the State Security Services, then in other parties there are still people, burdened with the heavy past of the Communist State Security Services.
Bulgaria, today, does not need new lines of divisions, but the final closure of this page in the conditions of complete transparency. The truth must not scare anyone. It is a necessary condition to look ahead as a democratic European state. Concealment of the past undermines the trust in institutions and leaves doubts which weigh heavy upon public life for decades.
